After a long time away from the blog, I'm back with a Brazilian classic compilation which describes very well how the Brazilian Hardcore/Punk sounds.
This LP was recorded at the end of 1982 and first released by Estúdios Vermelhos in 1983 followed by Ataque Frontal in 1985 and Indie Records in 1989. Then remastered to CD by Devil Discos. The problem is, with the re-equalizing process the sound changed too much and even worse is that the gaps they put between tracks, where you can not find on the vinyl making this record a non stop gem. I still believe worth to have the CD version, is like you are listen to a different recording, but you'll only notice it if you listen the vinyl version along it.
First we have Ratos de Porão - before João Gordo era - delivering their dirt hardcore with Jão (the only original member till nowadays) on vocals. Some Brazilian Punks believe that was R.D.P.'s best line up.
Cólera is another band that still going on recording and gigging, although they got slightly softer, still doing their catch sing along Punk Rock with great live performance.
Psykóze only register on vinyl is a sick apocalyptic disoriented chaotic Punk with crazy vocals talking about the end of the world, how shit mankind is and so on.
Fogo Cruzado -I always thought that was a great name for a band- means Crossfire and, oh yeah, it sounds like a real crossfire. It's a fucking original band that you wont listen anything like that combining powerful vocals and pounding drums. This is also the only studio register on vinyl although they have a split LP with Olho Seco where live performances are found.
On top you can see the first back cover press which comes with R.D.P's wrong songs printed.

Yep, another great comp! The RDP songs on here are their best, in my opinion. But the whole comp. is fantastic. I have the press on A. Indie Records. Old Brazilian HC rules!!
Cool, haven't heard much of this before. Thanks!
Wow, yeah I don't think I ever heard this before either.
ive got the first pressing, and have had the Ataque Frontal version in the past. i dont remember their being different/wrong tracks listed from Ratos De Porao. ah well, thats what i get for not being too perceptive. doesnt the CD version have extra stuff on it? or am i getting that confused with the "grito suburbano" cd; which has tons of extra stuff on it...i dunno cos i dont have either CD...
I'm always up for checking out South American noise, thanks for giving me the opportunity to listen to some proper old school :D
this comp toguether with grito suburbano i think are together the most important material from brasil. i could say perhaps thay express a brasilian punk identity,in brasil and abrod, showing the most expressive brasillian bands ever like:colera, ratos de porao e olho seco, its a shame till now , abrod, not meny people reconize "inocentes"that is a fucking wanderfull band with great lirics too .
at the begining of the 90 s we where still listening alot of brasilian 80´sp punk . that influenced alot that new generation of punx and bands.its just a shame that this new generation couldnt in part register for the present times an expressive material .we, that lived that period were calling it( the 90´s)many times as the lost era, or something like this, but this is another story.
back to the "sUB" undoubtly this formation of ratos de porao is not only better for me musicaly so to say.but for us by that time beeing in a very critical cene, with this formation ratos de porao was still save from the polemical image of Joao Gordo for exemple.Colera also had its times aimed by critics.but not as hard as ratos de porao . and psikose and fogo cruzado could keep their purity in punk hearts ,save by beeng already dead. After all, i dont care and i love all those bands. i was just remembering somethings that could be interesting .if not ... it´s over anyway.
THANK YOU. This is such good music. Brazilian punks had such fucking style. vicious, urgent, catchy. makes me bounce.
